Gregory Korn is a partner in the firm specializing in the areas of entertainment, intellectual property, and business litigation, with extensive trial, arbitration, and appellate experience. Mr. Korn represents clients in the film, television, and music industries, including studios and production companies, actors, writers, directors, producers, and musicians. He has handled a wide variety of contractual and rights disputes for these entertainment clients, as well as numerous high-profile copyright, “idea submission,” and trademark claims involving major motion pictures, television shows, and musical compositions. Additionally, Mr. Korn has extensive experience advising and representing celebrity clients in right of privacy and right of publicity disputes, as well as litigating contractual employment disputes in the entertainment industry.

In the area of intellectual property, Mr. Korn represents clients from a broad range of industries in copyright and trademark matter, including representing clients in matters before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Since 2007, Mr. Korn has been named every year as a “Rising Star” or “Super Lawyer” in the Southern California Super Lawyers Magazine. Mr. Korn graduated with Order of the Coif honors from the UCLA School of Law in 1999. Before law school, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Korn began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson, United States District Judge for the Central District of California. He then practiced as an associate, including at the law firm of Irell & Manella LLP, before joining KWIKH when the firm was founded in 2006.

Representative Matters

  • Korn has represented, and continues to represent, Media Rights Capital (MRC) and its affiliates in several contract, copyright, and employment-related disputes relating to the studio’s motion picture and television projects such as House of Cards, Ted, Baby Driver, and Elysium.
  • Korn represented Legendary Pictures in high-profile lawsuits involving the films Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, and continues to represent the film studio and its affiliates in a variety of contract and rights disputes.
  • Korn represented Justin Bieber in a high-profile copyright infringement action relating to the hit song Somebody to Love and successfully obtained the exclusion of the plaintiff’s musicologist and summary judgment on behalf of the client.
  • Korn is part of a team of lawyers at KWIKH, headed by Michael Kump, that represents Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, in a variety of contract, copyright, trademark, and right of publicity disputes.
  • Korn has represented and continues to counsel talent agency WME with regard to contract and intellectual property disputes, including obtaining summary judgment on the agency’s behalf in a copyright infringement suit involving the television series New Girl.
  • Korn was co-lead trial counsel for a film studio executive who was wrongfully terminated in breach of an employment agreement. The case garnered nationwide press after Mr. Korn succeeded in proving that the defendant fabricated evidence on the eve of trial purporting to show that the executive had sexually harassed several subordinates, leading ultimately to a multi-million dollar award on the client’s behalf.
  • Korn represented talent management company ROAR in a partnership dispute, and was a core member of the team that tried the case in a several-week court trial in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
  • Korn is part of a team of lawyers at KWIKH, headed by Howard Weitzman, that represents the Estate of Michael Jackson. He has successfully represented the Estate in several trademark and right of publicity matters, including procuring a favorable settlement in an action alleging infringement of the “King of Pop” mark, as well as securing the dismissal of a high-profile patent infringement case involving a virtual performance by Michael Jackson at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
  • Korn is part of a team of lawyers at KWIKH, headed by Lawrence Iser, that has represented Roland Corporation, one of the leading manufacturers of electronic keyboards, drums, and other musical instruments, in numerous intellectual property matters. He played a pivotal role in obtaining a preliminary injunction against a competitor’s infringing knock-offs of Roland’s famous “BOSS” line of guitar effects pedals, with the matter resolving favorably thereafter.
  • Korn has represented many writers, producers, and directors in contract and rights disputes involving independent films, including representing famed novelist James Patterson in a copyright and breach of contract matter concerning the feature film Alex Cross, and representing writer/director Nicholas Jarecki in a copyright and contract matter relating to his debut film Arbitrage.
